Pablo Matute’s artistic practice is rooted in personal history and the cultural and labor dynamics of South Florida. Influenced by his childhood experiences working alongside his parents on construction sites, Matute uses materials such as sheetrock, wood, and charcoal to explore themes of identity, memory, and immigrant labor. By recontextualizing these materials, he creates layered, textured works that reflect the fragmented nature of memory and the physicality of labor. His work serves as both a personal narrative and a broader commentary on resilience, belonging, and transformation within the Latino workforce. Through exhibitions, residencies, and community engagement, Matute seeks to foster dialogue about the intersection of labor, culture, and lived experience in Miami’s evolving landscape.
