Pablo Francisco Matute (b.1999) is a visual artist based in South Florida. His art recontextualizes materials and memories from his environment, capturing the region's tropical landscape and rich Caribbean and South American cultural tapestry. Pablo’s work delves into cultural identity, memory, and spatial history themes. By blending the transparency of charcoal with natural and industrial materials, he investigates the memory inherent in these substances, fostering a dialogue with the imagery. He uses natural palm fronds from his surroundings to create a dynamic interplay between their organic qualities and traditional drawing techniques. This approach facilitates a back-and-forth between the depiction of the environment and the materials sourced from it, resulting in a nuanced exploration of the connection between place and material creating sculptural abstract collages that reflect the connection of the landscape and its ties to South America and the Caribbean.
